What is SculpSure?

Harnessing the unique qualities of laser light energy, SculpSure is a body contouring system that non-invasively targets the adipose tissue used by the body to store fat. An in-office, 25-minute treatment can effectively remove nearly one-quarter of the adipose tissue in treatment areas.

SculpSure is cleared by the Food and Drug Administration to reduce fat stores located in the belly, flanks (your love handles), back, thighs, and under your chin. Unlike liposuction procedures, there’s nothing inserted into the skin, and unlike other non-invasive body contouring systems, SculpSure can treat up to four areas during one 25-minute session.

There’s no recovery time necessary after treatment. You can book an appointment with St. George Urology and return immediately to your regular activities. Typically, you’ll see results in as little as 6 weeks with maximum effects usually occurring by week 12.

How does SculpSure work?

Laser light is a unique form of energy, in that a laser emits just a single wavelength of light, unlike sunlight, for instance, which consists of wavelengths reaching from the infrared to the ultraviolet. In the case of SculpSure, a laser tuned to 1060 nanometers targets adipose tissue, which absorbs this light energy while surrounding tissue remains unaffected.

As adipose tissue absorbs energy, it warms about 5 to 10 degrees Celsius above normal body temperature, triggering a repair response by the body. Sensing that these fat cells have been damaged, the body starts to dispose of the warmed tissue. The best part is that these cells aren’t replaced by the body unless you undergo a major weight gain at some point in the future. Otherwise, once that fat is gone, it’s gone for good.

What can I expect with a SculpSure treatment?

The SculpSure probes including cooling tips to help prevent unwanted heating of tissue surrounding the treatment area, so the first thing you’ll feel is a cooling sensation. When the laser cycles to treat the fat cells, you’ll probably feel warmth and tingling that’s deeper down. It’s not likely that you’ll describe this as painful, but it is an unusual sensation the first time. While the SculpSure treatment itself is 25 minutes, with preparation, your total appointment time will be longer.
